NorStore - Norwegian Storage Infrastructure
The objective of the project is to establish and operate a national infrastructure that provides non-trivial services to scientific disciplines with a variety of needs for storing digital data. The infrastructure will provide easy, secure and transparent access to distributed storage resources, provide large aggregate capacities for storage and data transfer, and optimize the utilization of the overall resource capacity. The project will be a broad and nationally coordinated effort.
The infrastructure will be an integrated part in the national e-Infrastructure for science and research. It will be connected to resources that are located at several major research centers in Norway, including heterogeneous computing systems, networks, other data storage systems, and possibly scientific instruments.
The mission of the project.
The infrastructure is open to all research environments in Norway. Access to the infrastructure will be by application. (The requirements and procedures for this will be published on these pages shortly.)
The project is funded in part by the Research Council of Norway through the eVITA programme on e-Science.
Preliminary wiki pages have been created that describe the initial services that are begin provifded and application procedures for allocation of resources. The pages are being built with input from users. All interested users are invited to comment before the pages will be official:
